Ouch...
Audrey Hepburn and the couple
Bogart & Bergman will not appear on German stamps.
On a photocopy, which was produced in a hurry, the otherwise so impeccably working press service of the Deutsch Post annouces that changes have been made in the issue Für die Wohlfahrtspflege. This series of five stamps portraying Charles Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, Jean Gabin, Humphrey Bogart/Ingrid Bergman and Audrey Hepburn will be issued on October 11th, 2001.
The German Department of Finance, however, has decided that two stamps – the one with Audrey Hepburn’s picture and the one with the “movie couple” Bogart & Bergman – will not be issued. The reason why the three movie stars have been dropped out was not given. What was said is that the two stamps will be replaced by one copie which portrays Greta Garbo and one which shows the picture of a reel of film (‘act’)
This is most unfortunate for the German stamp mag Deutsche Briefmarken Revue, which depicts the square with the originally planned stamps prominently on its frontpage.
