Finnish president gets her own stamp
She's the first female president of Finland: Tarja Halonen.
She's the first female president of Finland: Tarja Halonen. She's now 59 years old and in 2003, she'll be celebrating her 60th birthday. On that occasion, the Finnish postal services will issue a special stamp on December 1st, which will be designed by Kuutti Lavonen. He is not a stamp designer, but the fact that he is teaching at the Art Academy seems proof enough to us to presume that it'll be a fine stamp...
The picture provided us with a new mystery: while the stamp mentions the name 'Tarja Halonen', the message constantly mentions 'Presidentti Halosen', with an 's' instead of an 'n', that is. It would be strange if there were no collectors on this site who are specialised in Finland and who would be able to help us out on this question... We were anxiously waiting... And yes, there were two Finland specialists that reacted quickly to our question on how to write the name Halonen/Halosen. They draw our attention to the fact that Halosen is a conjugation of Halonen. That's the way things go in Finland.
